DYRT / Core Technology
Featured Technology

Unlock the full potential
of your water.

The passive, inline engine at the core of every DYRT STACK — one flanged spool in the line, no moving parts, no chemicals, no consumables, and everything downstream works harder.

01What It Is

One spool in the line.
Nothing else changes.

A Vorterra unit is a flanged spool — Schedule 80 PVC or steel — that replaces a straight run of pressurized pipe. No moving parts, no consumables. Its plasma-activated chemistry feeds energy to the soil, seed, and plant — and the crop takes up more of every drop.

  • More crop per drop. Higher yield on measurably less applied water — the change shows up in your meter.
  • Less fertilizer. Better uptake trims input cost and footprint.
  • Nothing to babysit. No moving parts, no maintenance cycle — season after season.
  • Independently evaluated. Controlled trial at the University of Arizona — in writing.

02How It Works

Passive physics. Nothing to run.

SAME WATER APPLIEDCONVENTIONALshallow wetting · runoff · evaporationWITH VORTERRAMORE CROP PER DROPdeep infiltration to the root zone
Same water applied to both. Conventional irrigation wets the surface and loses water to runoff and evaporation — Vorterra conditions the same water so it drives deep into the root zone. More crop per drop.
STAGE 01

Axial flow becomes a vortex

Water entering the spool is spun into a tight, controlled vortex as it moves through the geometry — no pump, no power.

STAGE 02

Pressure falls at the core

The rotation drops pressure along the centerline, restructuring how the water carries and how it will deliver downstream.

STAGE 03

Recovery does the work

As flow recovers past the unit, the conditioned water moves into your field — and the crop takes up more of every drop.

See It Go In

It installs like a spool piece —
because that’s what it is.

A flanged section of pipe that bolts into the supply line you already have. No power, no chemicals, no controls — and once it’s in, nothing to operate.

  1. 01

    Match it to your line.

Vorterra is sized to your pipe diameter and flow and ships flanged to fit — mainline, submain, or pump discharge.

  2. 02

    Cut in and bolt up.

A standard flange-to-flange connection on the supply side. Same crew, same tools as any other spool piece in the system. No trenching, no electrical, no new pad.

  3. 03

    Turn the water back on.

Every drop is conditioned from the first pass. No commissioning, no settings, no consumables — the unit does its work with the pressure that’s already in the line.

Plasma Technology

The first plasma-activated water platform
to market in the United States.

Our plasma system takes only air, water, and electricity and, through a hybrid electric plasma discharge, fixes atmospheric nitrogen into nitrate-rich, plant-available water (PAW) — clean nitrogen made on-site, with no fossil fuels, no chemicals, and nothing to truck in.

A flowing water-air mixture is activated, dissolving reactive nitrogen species into the water.

Nitrate-rich PAW the crop takes up efficiently — better absorption, less leaching.

Special Projects

Good ground, given back.

The same spool piece that runs on commercial acres also runs on ground that feeds food banks and teaches the next generation. A few of the non-profits and special projects we’re proud to support with Vorterra.

04The Context

Built for the era
of less water.

The Colorado River Basin is negotiating its post-2026 operating rules against reservoirs at historic lows. Demand-side efficiency — making every delivered acre-foot do more — the one tool growers, districts, and agencies all share. It’s also the only thing this hardware does.

01

Conserved water you can meter

The Arizona trial’s treated plots skipped a scheduled irrigation, confirmed by soil-moisture sensors — conservation as a measured event, not an estimate.

02

Leased, not sold

Units are leased; Vorterra retains service, and a 10-year warranty stands behind the hardware.

03

Feeds your Stewardship Score

Every metered acre-foot flows into the DYRT Powered by Vorterra Stewardship Score — and into water, carbon, and energy markets.

05Milestones

Milestones worth reading about.

Start with one block

Prove it on your own ground —
then turn the water down.

A pilot runs a treated demo block at 25–30% less water and fertigation against a matched control, with the plant data to show it held. Units are leased, Vorterra retains service, and a 10-year warranty stands behind the hardware.
